Roofsit Coverage from WNDU

Monday, June 20, 2011 - www.pcasjc.org
Rob and A.J. from U-93 will be on the roof of Martin's on State Road 23 and Ironwood all week long raising money to prevent child abuse across Michiana.

This is the 15th consecutive year for Roofsit. The DJs headed up to the roof at 6 a.m. Monday morning and will be up there until 3 p.m. Friday.

Close to 25,000 cases of child abuse are reported every year in Indiana. Rob Sparks said it's heart wrenching to hear some of the stories of what these children deal with. But it's those same tragedies that spur him and his co-host A.J. to continue Roofsit every year.

More than a million dollars have been raised since Roofsit first started. This year, they're trying to raise $100,000 during Roofsit week. All of the money raised supports local kids and programs. More than 1,700 children were helped last year. Money also goes to programs that teach parenting skills and help those who are victims of generational child abuse.

Activities will be held in connection with Roofsit all week. Tuesday there will be a golf outing. Wednesday is Kids Day, and performances and activities will be going on from 10 to 4. Thursday, there will be a cornhole tournament, live music and a candle light vigil at 9:15 p.m. Friday there will be more performances and music, and the Unauthorized, Unofficial Glee Rip-off Contest will be held. This is a karaoke style contest. Registration for that event has closed, but you can come out and vote for your favorite performer.
