Several hundred runners and walkers showed up at Beutter Park in Mishawaka Sunday for the "Race to Zero," an event aimed at stopping child abuse. The 5K run and walk was sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse, an organization committed to lowering the number of child abuse cases.Organizer Ashley Farrell says the event was a great way to bring awareness to the issue."It's just a fun activity and a healthy way for families to spend the morning and come out and enjoy the day," says Farrell. This was the first year for the event, and Farrell said she hopes the run and walk will raise about $15,000 to support ending child abuse.Runner Adam Webber, who also one the event for his age group, says this course was different than others that he has completed in the past."This one was very fast. It was a very flat course, and very straight," says Webber. "A lot of races have turns and corners that slow you down, but this race was very fast. I'd do it again next year."
