Nearing the end of another successful Roofsit

 Uncategorized

Two DJs. One Roof. Five Days.

2010 marks the 14th year U93 DJs have lived and worked on top of a roof to reaise funds for the prevention of child abuse.  For the past several years the DJs have been Rob & AJ, and we cannot say enough good things about these guys.

This year was rough on Rob & AJ weather-wise.  However, the rain, wind and tornado warnings were nothing compared the the tales of heartache told from children, foster-parents, judges and therapists.  This year we heard from some survivors of abuse who endure painful physical and emotional abuse.  It brought it all home for us, and we are all glad for the sacrifices Rob & AJ made so that lives could be changed, an hopefully spared, from the horrors of abuse.

Martin's Super Markets went above and beyond the call of duty.  First they offered their roof again to be a home, office and radio studio for Rob & AJ.  They organized the first Roofsit Cornhole tournament that was a great success.  Martin's also coordinated sponsorships and booths from their many generous vendors for a busy, if not wet, Kids Day.  The Oscar Mayer Weinermobile was a big hit!

The Youth Service Bureau held another successful golf outing in support of Roofsit.

Prevent Child Abuse of St. Joseph County began a new tradition of Flocking yards with 14 blue flamingos for a $46 donation.  We had great fun sneaking around under the cover of darkness so people would be surprised in the morning.

We were touched by the many people who stopped by to share their stories, support and donations.  Most touching were the children who organized their own fundraisers, lemonade stands and donation drives to bring by to Roofsit.  Kids helping kids.  Wow!

Thursday night we held a vigil and many tears were shed during some musical performances and a beautiful picture show.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make 2010 Roofsit a success!  We can't wait to receive the grant applications and start putting your donations out in the community and put an end to child abuse.
