Winner of Roofsit Logo Contest unveiled

Winning design created by Penn High School Student

April 23, 2010, Mishawaka – At a packed vigil to commemorate National Child Abuse Prevention Month on April 22 in Beutter Park in Mishawaka, Prevent Child Abuse St. Joseph County board president Ellen Kyes unveiled the winner of the 2010 Roofsit logo contest.  The creator of the winning design is Allyson Carter, a Penn High School Senior.

The Drawing Out Awareness: RoofSit Logo Contest for Kids was created by U93, Martin's Supermarkets and Prevent Child Abuse St Joseph County as an opportunity for kids to create the new Roof Sit logo. To date, RoofSit has raised over $1.5 million to help prevent child abuse - and all funds raised have stayed within the U93 listening area.  2010 Roofsit dates are June 21-25.

Voting was tight between the five finalists with over 1200 total votes cast online in seven days.   With 814 votes, the winning design (attached to this email) was created by Allyson Carter, a graphic design student at Penn High School.  Allyson will have her logo displayed on everything related to Roof Sit including t-shirts, posters and the U93 website.

“I heard about the contest from my graphic design teacher.  In creating the design, I didn’t want to use stock images, so I had a child I baby-sit create the handprints,” Allyson explains.  Allyson will be attending Ball State University in the fall.  “I will be majoring in elementary education, and I hope to incorporate art into my teaching.”
