Roofsit 2020 6/22-26
Roofsit 2020 raised over $150,000 thanks to generous supporters like you! And while things will looked a little different this year, we are excited to bring you a line up of fun things to do all week long. Some of our events moved to a virtual, online format. Check out the lineup below!
Roofsit began in 1996 when two DJs at U93 radio station wanted to help victims of abuse. The DJs spent a week on local business rooftop, day and night (eating, sleeping, working and the bathroom!). They stayed on-air, sharing letters, emails, phone calls and personal interviews with survivors of abuse, often breaking down in tears over the pain the surviviors had endured.
Donations poured in to help educate the community and provide counseling services for vicitms and survivors. To date, over 2 million dollars has been raised to assist abuse survivors and educate the public on how to stop the cycle of violence. All of the money raised is granted to agencies in the U93 listening area.
While the event no longer takes place on a roof, the legacy continues, and the event continues to grow as a community effort uniting for one common cause - to prevent child abuse.
Many individuals, businesses, nonprofits, restaurants, U93, Martin's and other friends come together for one week in June to coordinate a huge fundraising effort and awareness campaign about the great work that's already being done in the area, and why it's important.
And it Grows...
In 2019, Roofsit raised $220,000 for child abuse prevention efforts in St. Joseph, LaPorte, and Elkhart counties in Indiana, and Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan.
And every year, new events are being added to the lineup.
